Pet Sitting
Business Name Ideas

Brainstorming Business Name Ideas

Finding the perfect name for your new pet sitting business can be very stressful. You want a name that fits your business and also expresses your style. While brainstorming business name ideas choose a name that:

  • People can remember
You can have the best name ever imagined, but if people can’t remember it, you may lose some potential business.

  • Is easy to spell and pronounce
Unusual spellings may look cute on paper, but you also want a name that customers can easily find in a phone book or internet search.

  • Lets customers know what you do
Your name should give potential customers some idea of what you do. Many pet sitters include the words “pet sitting”, “pet care”, or “in-home pet sitting” to clearly explain their business.

  • Sets you apart from other pet businesses
Choosing a name that inspires trust may give you a much needed edge.

As you rack your brain for the perfect name, remember that trying too hard may just give you a huge headache. Relax and business name ideas will probably come to you much easier.

Here are a few business name ideas to get you started:

    • Your own name - using your name can add a sense of ownership and personal responsibility for potential customers, especially for sole proprietors.

    • Your Location - using your city, county or township in your business name can add an element of pride and stability to your business. It also gives customers an idea of your service area. It may not be a good idea if you plan to expand or franchise your business in the future.

    • Local Landmarks - If your town has a lake, park, lighthouse or other unique landmark, adding it to your name lets customers know that you are proud of your community. Again, not necessarily a good choice if you plan on expanding.

    • Animal Characteristics - cute names will never go out of style and everyone seems to love them. The downside is that if you've thought of something cute and clever, chances are someone else may have already taken it so you'll want to do a search before you fall in love with it.

    • Emotions - think of the traits you look for when choosing someone to care for your own pets. Words such as caring, loving, tender, etch portray the warmth and dependability you will use in your business.

    • Meaningful to You - This is going to be your business, so if you want to use a name that's special to you, go ahead, even if it doesn't fit all the criteria mentioned above.

    • Grab a Thesaurus - having trouble coming up with the right words? A thesaurus could turn out to be the perfect tool for brainstorming business name ideas.

    • Have a Brainstorming Party -if you're still having trouble, try a brainstorming party with family or friends. You'll probably be surprised at how many ideas you come up with, and it's a great way to find words that are meaningful to other pet lovers.

      Registering Your Name

Once you have chosen the perfect name, you’ll need to register it with your county clerk’s office. The fee for registering a name is usually small, and they will check to see if your name is available in your area. It’s also a good idea to do a more extensive check on your own. Check potential names in one of the larger internet search engines (such as Yahoo or Google) to see if your name is already being used. It’s also a great way to brainstorm nouns, adjectives or any other words you are considering.

(The laws for starting a business can change from state to state and even from county to county. Most places do not require or even offer a license for pet sitting at this time, but as the pet sitting business grows, that could quickly change. It’s important to check with your local government to find out what’s required in your area.)
