FINDING A PET SITTER
Finding a pet sitter doesn't have to be hard if you know where to look. Check the yellow pages and you may be surprised at how many pet sitters are actually listed. However, before you start calling random strangers out of the phone book, I would suggest that you check with people you know and trust first. Here’s a list of great places to start to your search:
YOUR VETERINARIAN
Your veterinarian may know a professional pet sitter personally or have an employee who also does pet sitting. Even more likely is that he or she has a client who has used a pet sitter and may be able to recommend someone.
FRIENDS AND FAMILY
Check around with your friends, family, neighbors and co-workers who also have pets and find out what they do when they travel.
ANIMAL SHELTERS/ADOPTION AGENCIES
Visit your local humane society and other animal shelters. Pet sitters are animal lovers (or definitely should be), so often you'll find the name of a reliable sitter at your local shelter. Also, a shelter employee or volunteer may even have their own pet sitting business.
LOCAL PET STORE
Most pet sitters also have pets of their own. Check with the store owner and employees to see if they know any pet sitters in your area. Even if they don’t know someone personally, they may be able to check with their customers for a reliable reference.
DOG TRAINERS
If you have a dog trainer in your community, chances are good that they may have their own pet sitter or have a client who can provide you with a good reference.
I hope you have found these tips on finding a pet sitter helpful. Once you have the name of a potential pet sitter, there are some things you should find out before making your final decision. Find a list of important questions to ask on my
