Help for Haiti:
People and Animals

How You Can Provide Help for Haiti People

The devastating earthquake in Haiti has left many people dead and thousands injured, starving and homeless. Our hearts and prayers go out for them. Thankfully, the world is rallying together to provide rescue and relief but they are going to continue needing our help for weeks and months to come.

Unfortunately, the scammers are already hard at work trying to take advantage of this devastating disaster. Don't let them get away with your donations. Choose a local organization you trust or consider one of these well-known charities:

American Red Cross

The American Red Cross is known for its help in all kinds of disasters. The donation page allows you to choose where you want your donations to be used.

The Clinton Bush Haiti Relief Fund

This fund is partnered by former Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush through their individual foundations. The donation page states that 100% of your donation will go toward relief and recovery efforts in Haiti.

How You Can Provide Help for Haiti Animals

The Haiti earthquake also left behind countless stray pets and other animals in need of food, water and medical attention. In order to help them, the organizations listed below have joined the Animal Relief Coalition for Haiti, headed by the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) and the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW). At the time I write this, it is reported that animal responders have gathered in the Dominican Republic to assess the situation. A mobile clinic has been donated and is currently being stocked with medical supplies. This mobile clinic will be driven into Haiti as soon as they are allowed to cross the border.

Your donations will help pay for much needed medicine, bandages, food and veterinary care.

UPDATE: On January 27th, animal groups were finally able to enter Haiti and have now begun locating and treating animals in need. This will not be an easy task as most dogs, cats and other animals were not living in the best of conditions even before the earthquake. One of the biggest threats to the homeless pets is the enormous risk of diseases because most have never received vaccinations.

Best Friends Animal Society

You may recognize Best Friends from their wonderful work rehabilitating some of Michael Vick's former fighting dogs. Now they've joined the Coalition to provide help for Haiti animals.

The American Society for the Protection of Animals

The ASPCA is known for its efforts to end animal cruelty. According to their website, they are accepting donations that will go directly to help animals in Haiti.

American Humane
Protecting Children and Animals Since 1877

American Humane works through a network of agencies to protect both children and animals from abuse. Now they're teaming up with the Coalition to offer assistance for the Haiti animals.
