MY PETS
Welcome to our zoo. I'd like to introduce you to the furry critters that allow my husband and I to share their home. They usually get all the best seats in the house, but they do let me clean up after them so I guess it all balances out.
Mulder
Mulder was adopted from the Allegan shelter before I got married. Gretta and I were living alone and I had intended to adopt another small dog to keep her company while I worked. Instead I came home with the most adorable, loving cat I had ever met. It worked out great though because the two of them became the best of friends. I was an avid X-Files fan at that time, and Mulder has an aristocratic "Duchovny-ish" nose so that's how he got his name.
Carmel Crunch
My husband and I adopted Crunch from Pet Smart after we got married. Gretta spent so much time playing with Jeff's sons that I thought it was time to get a new playmate for Mulder. The first year was a total disaster. They hated each other and Crunch wouldn't come near any of us. She was so sweet at the shelter but I think our busy family was a little overwhelming for her. She finally came around and now she's the loving cat we fell in love with. She still likes to shred shower curtains, so we can only buy the cheap ones, but she's worth it.
Dodger
Dodger was our failed first attempt at being foster parents. He was brought into animal control when he was about six weeks old and he was in very bad shape. We agreed to foster him through
Pound Buddies
because he could not be adopted in his condition. He had mites that required a painful shot once a week as well as baths every other day. It took about four months until he was healthy enough for adoption. However, when his big day came, we realized that he already had his forever home with us! Of all our pets, I think he is probably the sweetest.
Nautica
Nautica started off as one of my favorite clients. She shared a home with another dog and two cats. Unfortunately, a new puppy was brought into the home and Nautica could not adjust to her new sister. We agreed to take her on a temporary basis until she could find a new home. We found out that she has a few issues from being passed around so much, so we decided to stretch our furry family to include one more.
BoBo & Snickers
These furry little guys are Abyssinian Guinea Pig brothers. They are cute and cuddly and doing their darnedest to eat us out of house and home. They are about 4 years old now and show no signs of slowing down. I credit their good health and happy personalities with the information I learned from
GuineaLynx.Com.
I highly recommend this website to anyone who is thinking of bringing guinea pigs into their homes. Guinea pigs have very special dietary needs and feeding them mainly pellets and nuts will lead to all kinds of problems, including hair loss and premature death. GuineaLynx.Com provides wonderful information on feeding fresh wholesome foods and economic ways to give your guinea pigs the spacious home they really deserve.
Isabelle (a.k.a. Izzy)
Izzy is the newest member of our furry family. She's a tiny little Sheltie with a big heart and she's always so perpetually happy that it's impossible to be around her without smiling.Unlike our other pets, Izzy had a very happy life story before coming to us. She spent the first few years of her life being doted on by my wonderful friends, Bert and her daughter Hannah. From the first moment I met Izzy as a tiny puppy, I felt a strong connection with her. Though she looks nothing like my Gretta girl, Bert and I both agreed that there was just something eerily similar in their personalities. In fact, if Izzy had not be a puppy when Gretta died, I would almost believe she could be my own sweet baby reincarnated. Every time I visited them, I would joke about how some day she was coming home with me - knowing that would never be possible. Then the impossible happened when my friend found herself facing a few major life changes. Changes that hopefully will turn out to be wonderful new challenges but ones that made it hard for her to keep Izzy. Lucky for us, she made the difficult decision to let Izzy join our crazy family and we couldn't be happier.
