Pet Sitting Questionnaire

This pet sitting questionnaire is designed to make you think about yourself and what it takes to run a successful pet sitting business. Pet sitting can be a lot of fun, but there's more to it than just playing with animals.

So, find out what the pet sitting questionnaire say's about you:

Love & Knowledge of Animals

1. Do you love animals? This is an obvious question, but look deep inside yourself and ask if you truly love all kinds of animals. Not every pet you care for will be warm and friendly, but they will all need your love and devotion.

2. Do you have a history of pet ownership and/or caring for pets?

3. Are you physically capable of handling large dogs and taking long walks?

4. Are there any animals that you are afraid of? Even though you can customize your business around the pets you are comfortable with, there may be times when you're faced with an unexpected pet.

5. Are you comfortable giving medicine and/or other medical aspects such as changing bandages?

6. Are you ready to spend a good deal of time cleaning pet messes and litter boxes? Think about a large, excited puppy with diahrrea, and you'll get the picture.

People Skills & Business Sense

1. Do you enjoy working with people? Most of your days will be spent alone with animals, but you must also be comfortable working with the pet owners.

2. Can you be firm, but diplomatic, when dealing with someone who wants you to change your terms or policies? It's okay to be flexible to a point, but it's important to remember that this is your business.

3. Are you extremely dependable? If you normally stay home every time you have the sniffles, then pet sitting is probably not right for you. The pets in your care will need you even if you have the flu. Of course, the good part is they also don't care what you look like! :)

4. Can you get up early and stay out late on a regular basis? And are you able to function, even on days when you're running on very little sleep?

5. Do you have a dependable vehicle and a back-up plan in case your car breaks down? You'll also need a vehicle that's good on gas, or the cost of keeping it running will eat up any profits.

6. Can you handle emergency situations in a calm manner?

7. Are you an organized person? You'll need to be, in order to accurately schedule appointments, stay up to date on your accounting, maintain a secure system for keys, keep track of what each pet needs and all of the other things you'll face as a business owner.

If you can honestly say yes to most of the questions, then pet sitting could be perfect for you.

Of course, the pet sitting questionnaire is just a guideline. If you love animals and you're super dependable, then you can probably overcome the other stuff if you want to work hard enough.

I should know, because I'm painfully shy with new people. But put a furry slobbery bundle of affection in the room and it's much easier to relax and enjoy talking with pet owners.
